Trissia Wijaya, PhD

I am a senior research fellow at Research Organization of Open Innovation and Collaboration, Ritsumeikan University and a course instructor at the College of Global Liberal Arts, a dual degree program with the College of Asia and the Pacific at the Australian National University (ANU). I received my Phd in Politics from Murdoch University.  I have recently been selected as the 2023 Herb Feith Centre Fellow from Monash University, Australia and the 2024-2025 ANU Indonesia Project Visiting Fellow. Additionally, I am a Honorary Research Fellow at the Indo-Pacific Research Centre, Murdoch University, Australia. In 2019, I held a visiting fellowship at Jinan University, Guangzhou, China, and Institute of Developing Economies - Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO), Japan.

Research

My research falls into four main areas of inquiry:

  1. Political economy of Japanese and Chinese infrastructure financing governance in Southeast Asia;

  2. Geopolitical economy and combined capitalism;

  3. The entanglement of energy transition and industrial policy in Global South and;

  4. The role of local agencies and actors in Chinese-linked project.

My research has been published in New Political Economy, The Pacific Review, Southeast Asian Studies, etc. Apart from academic publishing, I also contribute to popular outlets and think tank reports. I have been cited and/or interviewed by the South China Morning Post, Agence-France Presse, Reuters, Al Jazeera, CGTN, DW, BBC, Japan Times, The Jakarta Post, and CNN. I have also been actively pairing academic rigor with practical learning and real-world experiences through a number of consulting and ministerial advisory works including but not limited to consultations for the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations Development Program, the USAID, and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
